Long story short, recently I’ve been starting to notice a few things I wasn’t noticing before and I’ve been seeing some things a bit differently and it’s urged me to jot some things down, and as I started to pick up my guitar again to play around with these words, new things are starting to come out of my fingers and it’s pretty exciting.
I’ve stepped away from writing songs for a while now, except for the odd experimental piece here and there, and I’ve started to feel a spark, a freshness, come back to me that I lost after writing a ridiculous amount of material in a short amount of time.
I have a few new little ideas floating around, and this is the first time I hit record on one. Please, enjoy.

I really felt like recording something tonight, and I felt like doing it in a way I hadn’t done before.
So I set up a microphone in the middle of the room and just started playing some guitar. Then I just went from there, not moving the microphone, just moving myself around it for different sounds and levels, playing different parts over the top. I didn’t figure anything out, just jammed with myself pretty much, then I just made up some words on the fly for the vocals and here we are, ‘Skirting Board.’ I like how it turned out, and it was fun. I’m pretty sure I was singing about the whole mating ritual that I seem to stumble upon every time I venture out of my house on a weekend, and probably something else deep and meaningful busting through my subconscious. Enjoy.
Skirting Board by Jules Valentine
Skirting board
Rotting wood
Takes the rain
As it falls
Tell the tale
They’ve heard before
Get your laugh
Fix your hair
Walk a mile
The parade
For suitors
Watch your sway
Take a bath
Wash the stain
Mother’s warn
You’re the rain

This is a cover of Putting The Dog To Sleep by The Antlers.
I have very hazy memories of recording this song, fueled by red wine, no sleep, and the fact I can’t sit still.
But alas, I just found it, and I might as well share it. It’s a brilliant song, check out the original HERE, I don’t really do it justice. Sam got me onto these guys, they’re fantastic, this song doubly so.
